How rich is your life? Make a bigger difference

Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”  What can you do to make a bigger difference?  How rich is your life?   Feeling like you have nothing to give? Feeling poor (financially)? Remember this: More than anything, God asks us to be other-centered; He wants you to give away LOVE.  When I lost hundreds of thousands of dollars to an embezzling business partner, I was extremely angry. But with time I realized that I still had something to give away…LOVE.  The move I gave, the richer I felt.  I wouldn’t trade my current life (one which has left me in debt and without my once well-working athletic body) for anything...

from a MEOW to a ROAR!

When I was young, I was taught to memorize prayers. It wasn't until my late 30's that I realized God wants us to speak to Him from our heart. We do this to share ourselves with the very One who made us; to let Him know we love Him and that we want His desires to become ours. We acknowledge our errors and ask for forgiveness; we renew the Spirit within us and ask for empowerment (which He happily gives). After my neck and back injuries, I realized I can either feel sorry for myself, or I can do what I can do. At first (& some days) it was very discouraging, but then I said to myself, "Come on, Janet, plenty of people never danced, rode a bike, hiked or went to the gym, and yet they have great lives. You can have a...

Reflection & Discovery - the Reasons behind the Study Guide

I was gifted a Bible when I was in my 20s, but after reading the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, I heaved the book across the room, not to pick it up again until almost a decade later. Finally, when I realized God was calling me, I read the entire Bible in one year (that's easy if you'll read 4 chapters/day, skipping 1 day/wk to go to church). As I learned more about God and His love for us, and His will for us, I realized my behavior wasn't matching up very well with that of a good Christian. I decided to dig deep. I asked myself questions like: if God is really speaking, was I listening the way I...
